Gardening & Nutrition

Whether indoors or outdoors, in containers, or in raised beds, we can grow real food in our city environments! Gardens provides many opportunities to engage the whole body and mind. We are reminded of our connection to nature. They are places where people of all ages can explore with all of their senses and learn about the science and magic of plants! Plus, we get to grow and eat yummy, healthy food!

We build cognitive connections in language arts, science, math, and social studies. We also build valuable kinesthetic abilities, as those who learn by doing and moving flourish in these environments.

Educational and Skill-Building Connections
  • The interconnected nature of our built and natural environments
  • Gardening basics to grow food, herbs, and native pollinator-attracting plants
  • How gardens and green spaces benefit communities
  • To make yummy, healthy, easy recipes and develop safe kitchen skills

SEL & Wellness

Social Emotional Learning and Wellness is the holistic care for the body, mind, and spirit. Spending time on wellness, shifts our mindsets, and allows the body to function better. Everyone benefits when we each take care of ourselves.

Participants are then better able to engage in educational or work activities, as they develop self-awareness, self-control, self-expression, and social-cooperative skills. Join our instructors in a variety of quiet body activities, yoga, meditation, nature walks, gentle movement, and sound practices.

Educational and Skill-Building Connections

  • Our bodies need rest, healthy food, and exercise to function well
  • Our bodies are connected to nature
  • Nutrients and our bodies
  • Active Movement and Physical Fitness
  • We learn how to manage our energy and keep our bodies healthy

Nature Crafts

The study of Ethnobotany shows how humans have used plants for clothing to crafts, tools, housing, food, medicine, and furnishings. Mother Nature provides us with many colors, shapes, textures, scents, and patterns to explore.

We create art using materials we find, collect, repurpose, and reuse from nature and our built environment.

Educational and Skill-Building Connections

  • Creative, flexible thinking
  • Practice in a variety of art mediums
  • Using natural materials in creative ways
  • Recreational expression

Sustainability, Green Infrastructure & Street Tree Stewardship

Learn what happens when plants and architecture come together. Green Infrastructure like green roofs, green streets, rain gardens and bioswales, lower city air temperatures reducing the heat island effect, insulates and protects the longevity of roofs, controls Stormwater runoff, creates habitat for animals and insects, AND beautifies the city!

Our workshops instill a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship in the next generation and empower participants to be a viable part of the solution.

Offering supervised, mentor-rich, real-life, civics learning experiences, and opportunities for sharing of values, vision, and goals.
